The painting is characterized by the black background and the lacquer red of the two curtains on the sides of the composition. Some gold threads (haureole, decorations on the Madonna’s mantle) are painted with a brush.
Valuable is the sixteenth-century wooden frame with vegetable decorations with vegetable paste, originally golden, now very browned. It is the groped raisal.

The inscription suggests that it may be more than an eighteenth-century fake than a late-Byzantine icon. The sixteenth-century frame is valuable.
