Polychromatic, gilded glass vase of Meroitic manufacture excavated in Sedeinga, on the west bank of the Nile. On display at the permanent exhibition in the National Museum of Sudan in Khartoum. The Greek letters read "Drink and you shall live"

Chalice of Sedeinga, National Museum of Sudan, Khartoum, Sudan, North-East Africa This glassware was found in the tombs of the Napatan-Meroitic necropolis at Sedeinga. This beautiful blue and gold flute glass was discovered in tomb WT 8 in 1970. Ritually broken into about seventy pieces, it has been painstakingly reconstructed.
