Suspect provenance warning: Ex-collection Kojiro Ishiguro / Gallery Mikazuki re Iran

Dr Jones wrote to ask about a possible fake collection provenance for Persian and Iranian art. It was a real collection, and I had not heard of it being abused. Yet.

One name I see a lot for Persian / Sassanian / Iranian items, which seem to have left Iran after the Revolution, is the Kojiro Ishiguro 'collection' - ie the dealer who ran Gallery Mikazuki in Tokyo in the 1980s and 1990s. It's popular with Pierre Berge auctions and ex Pierre Bergé gallerists, etc. I have managed to access a copy of his catalogues (they're in Japanese and hard to find), and couldn't find a single one of the items allegedly in his 'collection' in them.

Homeland Security seized a piece in the Met which was supposedly ex Kojiro Ishiguro / Gallery Mikazuki and returned it to Italy in 2022.

Caveat emptor.
